Read the release below:
Kingston, Jamaica: On Sunday, October 22, 2023 the police shot and killed three young men from the Rae Town Community in Kingston. The circumstances surrounding the incident have raised concerns about the use of force by law enforcement officials.
As MP Caretaker for Central Kingston, Lawrence Rowe is urging the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) to conduct a thorough investigation into this incident. It is imperative that every aspect of this case is examined with utmost diligence to ensure transparency and justice for all parties involved.
This unfortunate event underscores the need for law enforcement agencies to exercise greater discretion in the use of force. The PNP stands with and supports the rule of law, and while we acknowledge the difficult and often dangerous tasks carried out by our dedicated police force, it is vital that the protection of lives and adherence to due process remain at the forefront of their responsibilities.
We eagerly await the results of INDECOM’s investigation and hope that it brings clarity and closure to all involved.
