Prime Minister Andrew Holness has hinted that mask wearing will be mandated for all Jamaicans yet again. He is also urging vigilance as the country weathers the 5th wave of Covid-19. He says personal responsibility is paramount in living with the pandemic. The pandemic is not over. Noting complacency among citizens in upholding Covid-19 protocols, Prime Minister Holness is reminding Jamaicans to manage their safety as the pandemic endures. With that observation Holness says public mask wearing will once again become a requirement.
He made the declaration at a house handover ceremony in St. James on Friday. This follows his earlier comments concerning citizens’ personal responsibility in protecting themselves against the virus during another handing over ceremony in Kingston on Wednesday. As the country resumes normal operations in school and businesses, the highly transmissible Omicron BA.2 variant has increased infections across the country. However Holness says the government has measures in place to respond to another Covid crisis.
