Despite delays and unease amid the south coast road improvements in St. Thomas, and other developments in the parish, Prime Minister Andrew Holness is assuring the work will provide opportunities for residents. Prime Minister Holness on Thursday toured sections of the south coast road improvement project in St. Thomas.

He also viewed the site for the Morant Bay Urban Center. Holness says while observing the grounds, he noticed residents’ discomfort, but assures that the infrastructure will provide unlimited opportunities, once completed. He says the national works agency has been instructed to ensure all the contractors respect the rights of the people. Holness says the development is expected to provide new access and improvements to St. Thomas.

He says the Government of Jamaica is taking an organized and structured approach to redeveloping urban centers and rural township. Chairman of the Factories Corporation of Jamaica, Lyttleton ‘Tanny’ Shirley, says construction is slated to begin next month, to create an all-inclusive facility.

This is one of four rural township developments to be constructed across the island.
