Shadow Minister on Transport Mikael Phillips, says Jamaica’s transport sector continues to deteriorate due to poor legislative and regulatory framework. He fears the state-owned bus company could crash under the current Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) administration.

Phillips, says the viability of the state-run Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) is seriously threatened and its operations continue to decline. He notes that JUTC has an accumulated loss of close to a hundred billion dollars over the 20 years, adding the company has never achieved the targets set out in the corporate plan under the current government. 

Pointing to the failure of the public transport sector due to legislative and regulatory framework, the Shadow Minister highlighted that Transport Authority -responsible for regulating the sector under the 1987 Act, is not regulating with vision as its slogan suggests
