Opposition Spokesperson on Energy, Phillip Paulwell is urging the government to extend the 20 per cent discount on electricity bills beyond the four months previously announced. This he says will further ease consumers’ burden. He is imploring the government to re-engage Venezuela as sanctions against Russia grow; he was making his contribution to the 2022/23 Sectoral Debate in Parliament on Tuesday.
Jamaicans continue to be burdened by high electricity bills and dramatic weekly price increases for gasoline; amid continued tension between Russia and Ukraine. In March, Minister of Finance, Dr. Nigel Clarke, announced a 4-month 20% subsidy for Jamaica Public Service (JPS) customers using up to 200-kilowatt hours of electricity per month.
