An established pastor in St Catherine has struck a chord, it is hoped will steer the youth away from gang violence. A music academy – now opened for youngsters in Spanish Town and surrounding areas to utilize and develop their artistic skills.

Recognizing the need to provide an artistic outlet for some youth, Pastor at the Lighthouse Assembly Rohan Edwards has opened a music academy for the youth of Spanish Town and surrounding areas to take advantage of. He hopes to use the music school as a tool to steer youth away from gang violence to lucrative skills.

Prompted by a need to take delinquent youth off the street, coupled with the desire to fill a shortage of musicians in churches, Pastor Edwards of the Lighthouse Assembly has opened the Lighthouse Assembly Music Academy. He shares the importance of the academy

Present at the opening was gospel recording artiste Jermain Edwards who says young people who equip themselves with the skills being offered will become more marketable. 

Though millions of dollars have been invested into the school, the courses are free to students who can learn to play an instrument, record music, take up skills in videography or audio engineering. Speaking to the shortage of musicians in churches, the Chairman of the Spanish Town Ministries Fraternal says these skills will add value to various spaces the youth interact with
