P.A.J & Other Agencies Discuss Reopening of Fort Charles CVM TV
It is one of the last standing heritage sites from the colonial war and an economic driver for the people of Port Royal. But Fort Charles has been closed for more than a year due to the pandemic.
The Port Authority of Jamaica (PAJ) says discussions are underway for the reopening of the fort to the public for tours.
President of the Port Authority of Jamaica (PAJ), Professor Gordon Shirley says he has heard the calls from residents and is working with other agencies for its safe reopening.
Port Royal locals have been trained as storytellers and employed to conduct tours at Fort Charles. The tour costs 15 USD for adults and 8 USD per child and usually lasts about 30mins.
Residents say the fort has provided jobs for dozens of people and can be reopened in a controlled way.
