Questions are being raised about the office of utilities regulation (o-u-r) role in holding telecommunication providers accountable for the ongoing service disruptions. To date, the regulator has met with representatives from both providers but the issue persists. The latest service disruption lasted for hours and the OUR is yet to comment on the issue.

While FLOW has indicated that it will be submitting a report to the Office of Utilities Regulation and Technology minister, Fayval Williams, many believe that this is not enough and are wondering what is the OUR role in the matter.

The OUR is expected to be the regulator and take action in ensuring that both providers maintain the highest standards but questions are being raised about whether this function is being carried out. However, the our says it is restricted by the Telecommunications Act and cannot apply fines to Digicel or Flow.
