The Office of Utilities Regulation (OUR) Clears JPS – Light, and power company Jamaica Public Service (JPS ) has announced it has the all-clear after an investigation into excessive billing linked to new meters. JPS Media and Public  Relations Manager Audrey Williams explains the probe was on meters installed more than two to three years ago.

“This investigation was undertaken because persons were registering complaints that they had seen an increase in their consumption following the change in meters,” said Williams. ” So, an investigation was launched to identify whether or not the cause was really with the meters and what they have found is that the meters are performing satisfactorily and not the driver of that increased consumption.”

However, while these findings have closed that investigation, the company is yet to provide a report on recent excessive electricity bill claims made by customers.

“This particular investigation took place for the period 2017 to 2019 so it is separate and apart  from the other investigation that we are awaiting about bills going up earlier this year.”

Back in July, some customers held a protest about high bills calling for action to be taken against the company.

OUR Clears JPS- the Minister of Science, Energy, and Technology, Fayval Williams indicated that an audit would be carried out.

“The results so far, we don’t have the results as yet but we certainly will keep everyone up to date once that is available,” said Williams.
