Opposition Leader Mark Golding says States of Public Emergency is not an effective measure to challenge crime in Jamaica. He argues that the method places the majority of Jamaicans at risk of being detained for extended periods. While condemning the decision of Prime Minister Andrew Holness, he reiterates that the Opposition was not consulted before the SOEs were imposed on Tuesday.
Mr. Golding characterized SOEs as a sloppy law enforcement practice. Adding that the SOEs are excessive and easily abused, listing several reasons an individual may be detained without charge, during an active State of Public Emergency. More details here:
