Opposition Spokesperson on Education Dr. Angela Brown Burke is rejecting the Governments decision to differentiate compensation for teachers based on their vaccination status. She explains the Government must take a more democratic and inclusive approach to governance and avoid mandatory policies around the vaccination of teachers.

Brown Burke says Jamaica is still a democratic state and should be governed as such. According to her the Government needs to meet with teachers to hear their concerns, fears, and hesitancy to getting vaccinated, to have an effective teaching and learning process. She says while the Prime Minister may be concerned about the Delta variant and the low vaccine, education is a partnership.

Minister Brown Burke says though times are difficult decisions must be made the Government should start from the premise which sees the right compensation for teachers and also wanting the best for themselves.
