Opposition calls for more community outreach – Scores of people in two communities in St. Andrew south were provided the opportunity to access the COVID-19 vaccines on Sunday, September 12. Meanwhile, member of parliament and Opposition Leader Mark Golding who was also on location, says the greater effort is needed to reach even more communities, as this will better enhance the goal towards herd immunity.

Residents in Trench Town and the Jones Town communities in St. Andrew south turned out to receive their COVID-19 jabs. A woman who received the vaccine explained to our news team that she had an allergic reaction, but the doctors on-site immediately attended to her issue.

Dr. Kurdell Espinosa-Campbell acting Director in the Health Ministry, says there were very few adverse reactions from persons receiving the jab, as oftentimes individuals are fearful. She however notes that at all blitz sites there are trained medical professionals present. She says since the start of September there were 80 persons who had adverse reactions and were treated. In the meantime, Member of Parliament for St. Andrew South Mark Golding says while he’s in support of persons turning out for vaccination, increased efforts should be placed on targeting more communities.
