CVM News visited downtown Kingston today to gauge reactions to the newly increased fares. One bus operator accused the Transport Authority of acting in a dictatorial manner. He suggested that there was no prior discussion about the various challenges facing the sector, and now they feel threatened for charging passengers what they believe is necessary to cover their numerous expenses.
On the other hand, passengers expressed their frustration with the changes. They shared with CVM News how they believe the government’s decision to impose this increase was rather inconsiderate, particularly at a time when many Jamaicans are struggling to survive and afford basic necessities.
