With a 32 per cent increase in murders since the start of the year, the police in St Ann have launched “Operation Leviticus” to help curb crime and reduce road fatalities in the parish. The operation yielded numerous seizures, including 3 vehicles, 55 pounds of marijuana and 3 arrests.

On Tuesday, the police along with members of the transport authority conducted a roadblock exercise in Llandovery Runaway Bay and Bengal in Discovery Bay. Of 183 vehicles stopped, 81 were searched as well as 187 occupants.

Popular Entertainer Sizzla Kalonji was among those searched. 3 vehicles were seized as well as 55 pounds of marijuana followed by 3 arrests for breaches of the dangerous drugs act.51 summonses were also served, 16 tickets issued and 7 warrants executed

Acting commander for the St. Ann police division, Superintendent David White says road fatalities along the Llandovery main road are of major concern. There has been a 32 percent increase in murders in St. Ann with 41 recorded up to august 14 compared to 31 for the same period in 2021. 15 murders have been recorded in the last 3 weeks. 

Supt.White says the police are bent on tackling criminal migration, he is also warning, that there will be no hiding place for wrongdoers. Watch the report for more:
