Omicron BA.4 And BA.5 Subvariants in Jamaica

The Health Ministry has confirmed two new omicron variants in Jamaica. The announcement came on Tuesday by way of a media release. Principal medical officer and National Epidemiologist, Dr Karen Webster Kerr say the BA.4 and BA.5 omicron subvariants are the most infectious. The medical doctor is urging individuals to take advantage of vaccines available across the island. Dr Webster- Kerr is also encouraging individuals to practice infection prevention and control measures to contain the spread. A total 87 omicron samples have been sequenced between May 13 to July 11, 2022. They were all identified as the Omicron variant- 9% being ba.5 and 6% being ba.4 sub-variants.  Watch the report:
