The National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) will be repairing twenty-five trucks to ease garbage collection, while they await the imminent arrival of 50 new trucks.
Chairman of the NSWMA Dennis Chung says the repairs will improve how frequently garbage is collected. At the same time, he is imploring Jamaicans to desist from improper dumping. Jamaica’s garbage collection problem will reportedly soon be a thing of the past, as chairman of the NSWMA Dennis Chung says about fifty garbage trucks will arrive by November.
The Chairman says the procurement process has already started; hence Jamaicans can expect major improvements and regularized garbage pickups. However, he notes that in the interim, the organization is also making provisions to alleviate the strains. Those replacements, according to Chung, will allow Jamaicans to see approximately a two-day improvement in the frequency of collection. He also notes more emphasis will be placed on public relations, to hopefully deter improper dumping. Watch the full report:
