Former Chief of Defence Staff Lieutenant General Rocky Meade is the new Cabinet Secretary. The Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) on Tuesday issued a statement confirming his appointment.

The retired military man will succeed Ambassador Douglas Saunders who will step down in October. Saunders occupied the post since June 2008.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness in the statement notes Meade’s years of experience in government will be an asset to public service and the push for efficiency and service excellence.  Holness also lauded integrity, commitment, and accountability. Exhibited by the outgoing Cabinet Secretary and thanked him for his service. Meade is referenced as saying he’s humbled by the appointment and being optimistic about his new role. One social and political commentator is lauding the move as progressive. Chang says Meade’s knowledge from the JDF will prove an asset in the role.
