Despite the recent focus on concerns surrounding how the payment of outstanding traffic tickets is being handled ahead of the full implementation of the new Road Traffic Act on February 1, 2023, Opposition Spokesperson on Transport and Works, Mikael Phillips, instead addressed what many consider the fork in the road, as it relates to the potential of the new Road Traffic Act to improve safety. As of December 16, 457 persons have perished in crashes, with the number of pedestrians killed hitting the 100 mark.  He says personal responsibility and engineering are the likeliest ways to fulfill the goal of preventing at least 50 percent of traffic-related deaths and injuries by 2030.
