More than 10,000 doses of the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccines were administered to Jamaicans at several blitz sites across the island on Saturday, July 1, thousands of first and second “dosers” turned up at vaccination sites to get their jab.

Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr. Christopher Tufton visited a number of the blitz sites. He says overall things have gone smoothly as Jamaicans 18 years and older turned out to take the jab. The Ministry of Health and Wellness says it is aiming to vaccinate some 150,000 citizens in the next couple of days.

The island-wide vaccination blitz will run from July 31 to August 5, 2021. The blitz sites will be opened today, August 1, and the Minister urges those who have not yet registered to do so.

The Prime Minister recently announced that Jamaica is in the early stages of a third wave of the COVID-19 infections. Dr. Tufton also urges Jamaicans to continue to adhere to the safety protocols to limit the spread of the virus.
