A week after questioning the Integrity Commission’s investigative functions and if the body is impartial in its affairs, the St Mary Western Member of Parliament Minister Robert Montague, is back with more questions and this time accusing the Commission of misconduct. The Minister unearths several alleged biases while calling for an anti-corrupt agency.
Leveling accusations at the Integrity Commission, the Member of Parliament again alluded to the Commission’s special report on matters concerning the Firearm Licensing Authority saying it is rigged with misconduct, bias, and malice. The report covered the period 2012 to 2018 while Montague and the Opposition’s Peter Bunting served as National Security Minister. Contextualizing the report, one should note both Ministers were accused of granting licenses to individuals with criminal antecedents.
However, recently the Integrity Commission reversed its conclusion about Bunting, an act that Montague questioned, he says the reports are inconsistent. Further to questioning the addendum last week, Montague says the then Interim Director of Corruption Dirk Harrison wrote an email and letter to Bunting while investigations were ongoing.
