Minister of Health and Wellness Dr. Christopher Tufton says the ministry is seeking to make workable adjustments in special care nursery facilities to prevent further challenges. This comes after 12 newborns died at the Victoria Jubliee Hospital last year, which led to the Opposition calling for the Minister’s resignation. To reduce the cluster of bacterial infections detected at the hospital, the Ministry invited the Pan American Health  Organization, (PAHO) to conduct further investigation last October.

Dr. Tufton notes in reviewing the findings the ministry intends to work assiduously to avoid recurrence. Meantime he disclosed the ministry is looking to provide greater care for newborns in the public health sector. He says enabling earlier detection is paramount to decreasing morbidity and mortality. Dr. Tufton was speaking at the Terra Nova Hotel in St Andrew on Tuesday.
