MOE Provides Clarity for Pathways Programme

Concerns were raised at a post cabinet meeting on Wednesday, November 10, surrounding the new 6th form Pathways programme initiative implemented by the Education Ministry. More clarity was asked to be given by acting Chief Education Officer, Dr. Kasan Troupe, in regards to a statement she made that the Ministry will not have direct dialogue with parents regarding the Pathways programme. 

On Wednesday’s post cabinet meeting, questions were directed to acting Chief Education Officer, Dr. Kasan Troupe about statements made regarding consultations between schools and parents. Dr. Troupe explained how the Ministry will structure information to be passed on to parents and guardians. Dr. Troupe notes that the Central Ministry would not be interacting with parents at this time, as work is done with schools, when it comes to dialogue with parents.

She added that when meetings are held with the Boards a parents is present who represents the voice of the parents, however notes that if they are needed as technical support at Parent Teachers meetings then they facilitate it.

Dr. Troupe notes that the Ministry has a Community Relations Education Officer who provides additional support to parents. She also says parent reps are included for various major decisions made by the Ministry. The 6th form Pathways programme will commence in 2022.
