The Ministry of Education (MOE) is relinquishing responsibility for a training programme it spent millions of dollars on, after failed operations. The Ministry of Education is handing over the centre of occupational studies, a training programme it is spending millions of dollars on, after nearly 40 per cent of students did not continue their tenure.

Dr Grace Mclean says many times the students would leave the course after gaining some experience for a job opportunity without acquiring the degree. Dr. Mclean clarified that dropout doesn’t necessarily mean that the person was not certified in any area; they would have completed what is called stackable credentials which are smaller courses that the institutions have sought to certify persons in.

Mclean says the Ministry has however decided to bolster secondary schools sixth forms as she believes this will add to the retention of students. She says she is however disappointed with the outcome of the cos after much resources were pumped into the programme.

Additionally, the Office of the Prime Minister and the MOE, Youth, and Information declared that they have not had oversight responsibility for the National Council on Technical and Vocational Education And Training (NCTVET) for at least the last three years.
