The government has implemented several methods to minimize beet armyworms affecting onion and escallion farmers in St Thomas. Among the strategies is a risk assessment report, and plant health mobile clinics for local farmers.

 It is anticipated that the increase in productivity achieved for 2023 will create greater investments for farmers. Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries (MoAF) Pearnel Charles Jr says his Ministry has been working assiduously to end the recurring beet armyworm infestation in Jamaica. The increased attention comes after scores of farmers in St Thomas lament damage to onion and scallion production.
