The Ministry of Labour and Social Security, MLSS, is concerned about the safety of Construction Workers. Labour and Social Security Minister Karl Samuda in his methodical report in the Sectoral Debate, notes with concern the growing disregard for safety on construction sites in the last year. A matter which he insists will be handled and reduced through monitoring from the Ministry.
SAMUDA: 85% OF GUARDS SIGN CONTRACTS
He also advised that some 85 per cent of security guards have so far entered formal contracts with their firms. Admittedly, one of the most important ministries impacting critical areas such as workplace safety and compliance with labour laws along with social welfare programs like PATH, the Ministry of Labour and Social Security’s report was much to unpack. However, among the countless nuggets from Minister Karl Samuda’s contribution to the sectoral debate was the matter of security guards refusing to sign allegedly shifty contracts with their firms.
He told the parliament Wednesday; the majority of the security guards have since signed. In recent weeks there were continued standoffs between the guards and their firms over the guard’s new status as full-time employees. Minister Samuda says he’s aware of some disquiet that remains in some companies and he assures.
