On the heels of the launch ceremony heralding Local Government and Community Month, celebrated in November, Local Government Minister Desmond Mckenzie says discussions are being had regarding improvements in garbage disposal and proper allocation of the country’s resources.

Minister of Local Government Desmond Mckenzie also said he is so far satisfied with the outcome of investigations in relation to Mayor of St Ann’s Bay Michael Belnavis. The conflict surrounds the alleged breach involving the installation of a 220-volt car-charging port at the St Ann Municipal Corporation (SAMC) for his hybrid motor vehicle in 2020. Since the mishap, concerns have been raised regarding the management of allocated resources across the parish, and the role the municipality plays in these matters.

Minister McKenzie acknowledges there are still outstanding issues plaguing the parish, that need to be resolved. Commenting on the 50 trucks that are slated to be shipped to the island, Mckenzie says they are expected to be in a similar style as the ones we currently have. Additionally, they will not be eco-friendly. However, the minister notes the government remains focused on fulfilling the environmentally friendly quota in other ways.
