In addition to contending with a disruption in the supply chain globally and limited resources, Jamaica Manufacturers & Exporters Association (JMEA) are now experiencing a significant labour shortage. President of the JMEA John Mahfood says he noticed that more people are seeking BPO jobs, and are shying away from working in the factories due to meager salaries.
A massive labour shortage has been crippling the manufacturing sector in Jamaica; that is according to the President of the JMEA. He is crediting the manufacturers’ struggle of finding a sufficient labour force to their inability to pay workers well, which he says is due to the shortcomings within the sector.
Consequently, Mahfood notes people are opting to offer their skill sets to other, much more lucrative industries. The President says manufacturers must now make adjustments to salaries based on the inflation rate. He says the labour shortage is not easily resolved. Meanwhile, Mahfood says companies are also being affected by the disruption in the supply chain globally.
