Minister of Legal and Constitutional Affairs Marlene Malahoo Forte told the parliament she does not want the issue of constitutional reform to stop with one government in the event of a change.
The Minister reinforced the constitutional matters in her sectoral contribution outlining sections of the entrenched provisions while reminding the final decision is dependent on the majority vote of parliament and the Jamaican people. That was Marlene Malahoo Forte on matters of constitutional reform. Forte who chairs the committee says other determined steps in moving the country’s independence further is solely dependent on a parliamentary procedure, which entails a very specific constitution amendment process with both members of the house and the eligible public forte says nothing will go to the Jamaican people unless parliament agrees to the changes, noting embarking on a constitutional change in a time of peace is historic.
Nonetheless, Forte reminds that the deeply entrenched provisions require a bill and a 6 month period to elapse before passing the bill. Watch the report:
