The series of attacks on security officers transporting cash is forcing major changes in the banking industry. With immediate effect, the government is implementing crucial policies and regulatory changes to ensure the efficient and safe operation of transfer services. Minister of National Security, Dr Horace Chang says this is due to criminals’ upscaling their operations and intensifying their hostilities. The effects of the recent spate of attacks on security guards servicing automated teller machines have trickled down to the average Jamaican, leaving many cashless due to ATMs being out of service or out of funds. Dr. Chang said the issue is being dealt with as a matter of urgency by the government.
Having met with several stakeholders, the Minister intends to implement measures to improve operations across the island. Watch the report:
