The business community in Westmoreland is banking on at least two major projects to boost employment and help remedy the crime problem in the parish. Included in the buildout, are 400 housing solutions and a $ 61-billion growth and job creation possibilities.
Up to Wednesday, 107 persons had been murdered in Westmoreland – a 35 percent increase compared to the corresponding period in 2021. It is the parish with the second-highest murder count.
Despite the bloody reality, business operators are confident in the fruits the initiative will yield. Vice President of the Westmoreland Chamber of Commerce, Cosmond Jackson, is confident major projects in the making will create purpose for idle hands.
