Despite major crimes falling by over 6 per cent this year, Police Commissioner Major General Antony Anderson says murders have increased by just over 1 per cent. He also noted that the western parishes factor heavily in the latest increase in murders, triggered by illicit activities such as scamming. He was speaking at the JCF’s monthly media briefing on Tuesday.

Although murders are slightly up, the bulk of the incidents in Western Jamaica is triggered mainly by scamming-related activities. The Commissioner said the force has been improving its intelligence gathering and continues to partner with other entities to clamp down on illegal transactions. He maintains the JCF’s commitment to going after the money.
