Local government elections have been postponed to February 28, 2024; the House of Representatives approved its postponement at today’s sitting. The bill was piloted by Local Government Minister Desmond McKenzie. He says this announcement comes under the consideration for the recovery of the Jamaican economy. The minister in his presentation says the importance of the extension is to build a natural resilience against any unforeseen economic crisis which might arise and to expand and maintain the strong economic growth which the country has seen. 

McKenzie added the brief period of postponement will also seek to conclude the consultation period for Portmore to become the 15th parish and asks for the patience of the people. Watch the report below:
