The recent flare-up by a Jamaican firefighter has exposed the reality that mental health facility access for the group needs major improvement.

In an interview with CVM LIVE, our reporter Kimberly Henry posed the question to the trade unionist who represents firefighters if their mental health is being neglected. She spoke extensively about the issue while stating the improvements that have been made thus far. The actions taken by the suspended member of the Jamaica Fire Brigade on Tuesday, to climb the bus terminus roof, is being described by some as being dramatic and insane while others saw it as an extreme measure of desperation.

However, the question still remains, is the mental health of firefighters being taken care of?

General Secretary of the Jamaica Association of Local Government Officers ( JALGO), Helene Davis-Whyte, on Wednesday debunked several of the claims made by the firefighter, however, she also had this to say. She says while the concerns may be realistic to SGT Bennett and perhaps others, the union has to work under industrial processes in order to address such complaints.
