Chairman of the Kingston and St. Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC), Delroy Williams says there are plans to build a new homeless shelter to house at least one hundred people in the near future.

The mayor was speaking at the annual homeless treat that happens on New Year’s Day.

He says approximately two years ago concerns were raised by the municipality about persons who opted to provide food for the homeless independently considering the health risk.

Mayor Williams says though the pandemic has canceled countless customary activities, the KSAMC has put measures in place to ensure that the treat could go on to benefit some of the countries’ most vulnerable.

One individual who has been volunteering to assist in treating the homeless for the past three years, Keithia says it is her way of giving back to  those in need, especially during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
