The KSAMC inaugural wellness day of care was the highlight for many homeless people on Saturday. The event provided much needed medical assistance to the homeless, to include HIV testing, vaccinations and birth certificate services.
This event will soon be followed by the transitional facility, geared towards improving the safety of homeless persons. The Kingston and St. Andrew Municipal Corporation‘s wellness day for the homeless has made a positive impact as over one hundred homeless people benefited from medical assistance and the attention of a team of psychologists and psychiatrists on Saturday.
Kingston Mayor Delroy Williams says it was difficult to organize similar events during the restrictive period of the pandemic. He says the event was much needed. This event is the latest effort by the KSAMC and local government ministry to assist the homeless. However, in December of last year Mayor Williams committed to providing jobs for those vulnerable persons, which he says has been going well. Meanwhile, Local Government Minister Desmond McKenzie says there has been a reduction in violent acts against the homeless. The transitional facility for the homeless will soon be completed.
