As the Corporate Area continues to experience heavy rainfall, the ongoing issue of blocked drains resulting in intense flooding and impassable roads is to be addressed by the Kingston and St. Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC). Plans are now under way to reduce the impact of the problem.

Flood mitigation was a major focal point at Tuesday’s KSAMC’s Council meeting  at the Jamaica Conference Centre.

Mayor of Kingston Delroy Williams, says while the corporation continues in its efforts to fight the flooding scourge, mechanisms will soon be introduced to further bolster their efforts.”We are looking at the flood plains across the municipality,

The mayor says inefficiency and the lack of compliance within municipality has serious implications for the general management of the public’s assets. He says the municipality is determined to implement proper and effective infrastructure to enhance the country’s development.

“We are bent on ensuring that the internal control systems, that they are in place, that they are monitored and that we ensure that we continue to strenghten them and where there are difficulties, we basically discover the difficulties and fix them,” the Mayor said.
