Amid concern and predictions of chaos for commuters at the start of the new school term, the Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) reintroduced 100 buses to its fleet on Monday. This follows concerns raised by the opposition for commuters who depend on the service as the new school year begins. Concerns, due in part to the significant reduction in the JUTC fleet because of difficulty in sourcing replacement parts from Europe, since the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Transport Minister, Audley Shaw, is however lauding the JUTC for its efforts. Minister Shaw notes that with the additional buses, the target of four hundred operating buses will be closer by the end of the year. Meanwhile, Managing Director for the JUTC, Paul Abrahams, says his main focus is to keep improving the bus fleet.
