President of the Jamaica Confederation of Trade Unions, Helene Davis-Whyte says public sector workers are on edge as they await the finance ministry’s response to their unions’ requests for compensation review documents. 

In a statement Friday the JCTU says if the documentation requested was not forthcoming Monday they could not guarantee normalcy in the sector. 

This after the finance minister reportedly issued a statement regarding the proposed removal of duty concession for public sector workers. The ultimatum follows a statement attributed to the minister regarding the proposed removal of duty concession for public sector workers and what the JCTU dubbed an attempt to divide and rule member unions.

The JCTU President says if come Monday there’s no documentation the sector could grow even more restive. The trade unionist, notes already the April 1 original date has been pushed back to the end of July. She says the actual details of any proposed changes must be provided for members to consider. Mrs. Davis -Whyte says efforts have been made to since set a meeting date for Monday but it was unconfirmed. She insists a meeting date must be agreed upon within the next two weeks for the compensation review to continue.
