JCF’s Long Arm of the Law

St. Catherine Police Arrest Anthony Errol Reid for a 22-year-old Murder Case

Breakthrough for the St. Catherine South Police Division Criminal Investigations Branch, Anthony Errol Reid, also known as Christopher Reid or Christopher Barrett, 47 years old and unemployed, residing in Marlie Acres, Old Harbour, St. Catherine, has been arrested and charged for a murder that occurred 22 years ago.

The accused, born on January 1, 1976, faced charges last evening in connection with the murder of Dinsdale Heslop, also known as Prince, a 26-year-old unemployed individual from Old Lot 364 Amberaly Close, Portsmouth, Portmore, St. Catherine. The crime took place on Thursday, December 20, 2001, at 10:30 pm, specifically at 1 Northern Parade, Portsmouth, Portmore, St. Catherine.

The grim circumstances surrounding the case unfold in events from over two decades ago when Reid allegedly stabbed and killed Dinsdale Heslop at a bar in Portsmouth. Subsequently, he fled the country, seeking refuge in the United States of America. However, the long arm of justice caught up with him, and on Thursday, December 21, 2023, after completing a prison term in the US, he was deported back to Jamaica. Upon his return, he was promptly taken into custody, interviewed, and charged for the 22-year-old crime.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Jermaine Anglin, the Crime Officer for the St. Catherine South Division, expressed his commitment to pursuing individuals who have managed to evade investigators for extended periods. Senior Superintendent of Police Christopher Phillips, the Commanding Officer for the Division, commended the diligence and professionalism exhibited by the investigators throughout the lengthy period, emphasizing the unwavering dedication to solving cold cases and bringing justice to victims and their families.

This recent development underscores the relentless efforts of law enforcement in the pursuit of justice, even for crimes committed many years ago. As the legal proceedings unfold, the St. Catherine South Police Division remains steadfast in its mission to hold perpetrators accountable, demonstrating that time does not diminish the commitment to upholding the law and ensuring justice prevails.
