Jamaica today received 200,000 Sinopharm vaccine doses courtesy of the People’s Republic of China of which over 100 thousand were said to be donations. Health Minister, Dr. Christopher Tufton says the vaccines will afford Jamaicans even more options to choose from in the fight against the Coronavirus (COVID-19).

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Andrew Andrew Holness says the Chinese donation of the Sinopharm vaccine serves to bolster the friendship between the Chinese people and Jamaica for nearly 50 years.

Another 200 hundred thousand doses of vaccines were procured through the efforts of the Foreign Affairs Ministry from China Wednesday, November 24. Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton notes this expands the country’s vaccine offerings. The Minister continues to encourage Jamaicans to take the vaccines as they now have a number of options to choose from and advisors who they can get additional information from before they make the decision to take the jab.

To date, Jamaica continues to lag behind in its vaccination push even as a fourth wave approaches. Prime Minister Andrew Holness says it is crucial people get vaccinated, acknowledging the gift and pandemic examples from one of Jamaica’s longest trade partners.
