Investigators are probing a robbery that took place in St Elizabeth earlier this afternoon. Three men reportedly held employees of the Ready Cash outlet at gunpoint before taking off with an undetermined amount of cash. However, during the incident, an alarm was raised and police were called.

Head of the Corporate Communications Unit at the Jamaica Constabulary Force, Senior Superintendent of Police, Stephanie Lindsay shared details from the event: ” At first we thought it could have been a hostage situation based on what was initially reported, so the police had to take charge of the building and clear it but having cleared the building they realized that persons inside were terrified.”

She added that while there was a robbery with armed men further investigations revealed that the men had already fled the scene leaving the employees shaken but unharmed.

Before the robbers escaped, the area had been cordoned off and surrounded by police officers and soldiers.

Two men are now in custody but it is not clear what role they played in the incident. “Not sure yet if they are connected but they have reason to have those persons in custody,” SSP Lindsay said.
