IMF Final Review: Jamaica’s Economic Performance
Jamaica has achieved a major milestone in completing its three-year financial partnership with the international monetary fund (IMF).
The consensus of Jamaica’s economic performance for that period is being dubbed as successful.
Director of the IMF’S Western Hemisphere Department Dr.Alejandro Werner was a guest on CVM LIVE last evening. He gave his perspective on the review.
Former Managing Director of the IMF Christine Lagarde praised Jamaica for the successful completion and says this is due in part to the strong commitment of creating jobs and reducing unemployment, stabilization of inflation and the reduction of debt by 50 percent of GDP….which all results in national productivity.
Speaking at a Press Conference, Prime Minister Andrew Holness, says the work is not yet over as they now are tasked with maintaining fiscal discipline.
Jamaica will continue to benefit from technical advice from the IMF and their local offices will remain open for another two years.
