A  St. Catherine family of ten (10) is now homeless after a fire ravaged their home. They say the fire was caused by a candle, lit by their elderly mother. At around 3 pm, Jonna-lee Bennett received a call alerting her that her house was on fire. She says she battled with figuring out whether it was a cruel prank, or she was actually losing her childhood home.

Bennett says she remains in disbelief by the news, especially since she recently made plans to add another room for her two children’s comfort.

She says her new reality will be living with different relatives, an arrangement she is not fond of as she is now stripped of her independence

The eldest sibling, Mark Bennett says he lost over two hundred thousand dollars in the fire. Bennett managed to save some money from a total of four hundred thousand. He says he was anticipating a good Christmas since the curfew hours have been relaxed.

Now, he is not so sure. The household has five children, all of whom are now without school items and other necessities.

The family seeks assistance as they work to rebuild their home.
