Worker housing, agriculture and infrastructure are emerging as primary focus areas for the sustainable growth of the tourism sector in coming years, as the industry also seeks to recover from the labour losses as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. It is within that context, that Jamaica’s Tourism Ministry is seeking a more holistic investment approach from international hoteliers.

 Beyond the need for housing, it is also being acknowledged that traffic congestion along the main corridors especially in growing tourism destinations, is having a severe impact on productivity, an issue Seiveright said was being addressed with several infrastructure projects already in the works. Avoiding the growth pains of rapid development in Hanover’s tourism products is also a priority area of concern.
