Horse rides seem to be a big business in Mammee Bay, St Ann. Horses are being used on the side of a busy main road or in nearby bushes for trail riding, however, there is a cry for quick intervention before the situation gets out of hand.

Secretary of the St. Ann Polo Club in Drax Hall, Lesley Masterton-Fong Yee says a number of horses which are referred to as the ‘Side of the Road’ horses are being used for the business of trail riding along the Mammee Bay main road, thereby putting tourists at risk.

Yee said the persons operating the ‘Side of the Road’ horses, don’t seem to have a formal place to host the horses, and that several horses are killed on the road or mistreated if they are not able to perform as they use to while making money for their masters.

According to her, these unregulated activities also take place on government property. The mistreatment of horses in Mammee Bay St. Ann is of grave concern for many. But the endangerment of tourists, motorists, and residents in the area is just as consequential.
