During the National Annual Day of Prayer in Portmore, St. Catherine, Prime Minister Andrew Holness advocated for political unity to address Jamaica’s crime challenges. Despite a reported decrease in the country’s crime rate in 2023, the government aims for further reduction. Holness emphasized the need for collaboration between himself and Opposition Leader Mark Golding in combating crime. While Golding has previously expressed disagreements with the government’s crime-fighting approach, both leaders acknowledged common goals through a symbolic unity ceremony, demonstrating a shared commitment to lead the nation. The event, chaired by Reverend Dr. Elaine McCarthy, marked the 18th staging of the Heal the Nation initiative and the 4th Annual Day of Prayer.
