Recent heavy rains in some eastern parishes have left an estimated 76 million dollars’ worth of damage behind. The revelation was made by Agriculture Minister Pearnel Charles Junior today during a media briefing.

Among the worst affected parishes are Portland, St. Mary and St. Ann. The rains also destroyed crops and livestock.

76 million 8 hundred and 15 thousand dollars’ worth of damage has affected over 551 farmers in the east following heavy rains recently. 55 farmers have been hit with livestock losses estimated at 1 million 931 thousand dollars. St. Mary was the worst affected when compared to Portland and St. Ann with 17 communities being affected by the January 31 to February 1 showers. This loss comes after what the Minister calls the best performing quarter in history.
