The Cornwall Regional Hospital in Montego Bay is getting a $3.5 billion cash injection from an estimated $30 billion that has been budgeted for the health sector upgrade.

Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr. Christopher Tufton says that there is no doubt that there has been an underinvestment in the Jamaica health sector.

Dr. Tufton adds that the government is committed to ensuring that public health gets what it deserves in the interest in the Jamaican people.

It was noted that a ground breaking will be kept next month for a $5.7 billion Western Children and Adolescence Hospital, a gift from the Chinese government. Upgrades such as these form a part of a comprehensive 10-year plan for the health sector.

Dr. Tufton says this focus on wellness now captures the new name of the ministry, which is now the “Ministry of Health and Wellness”.
