A man has been arrested after being linked to the shooting death of a mother and her 4- year-old son in Granville, St. James. The St. James police say another murder in the parish Tuesday, August 10, appears to be connected to the ongoing gang conflict in the retirement and Granville area.

Residents of Hill Top Retirement St. James were terrified by the vicious shooting of a mother and her 4-year old son while they slept. Both mother and son succumbed to their injuries at hospital. But 17 days later, on Thursday, August 5, the St. James divisional fugitive apprehension team conducted a special operation in the form of snap and targeted raids which led to the arrest of Dwayne Maxwell otherwise called trust me. The 29-year-old was charged in relation to the murder.

He’s said to be unemployed and hails from retirement, Granville and Rhyne Park both in St. James.

Maxwell was wanted for the double murder of Shelly-Ann Shaw and her 4-year-old son Jemar Powell. They were shot and killed on Monday, July 19 about 3:50 am. The suspect was also wanted for wounding with intent and shooting with intent committed against the mother, Shelly-Ann Shaw on July 15, four days before they were murdered.

Police say thorough investigations conducted by both the St. James criminal investigation branch and the Area 1 Major Investigation Division yielded the early closure.

Meanwhile, another murder in plain sight at the gates of Vistaprint in Fairview, St James, is believed to be linked to recent upheavals in the Retirement and Granville area. The deceased has been identified as Orian Williams, otherwise called chef of Granville. Concerned citizens say more needs to be done to reduce crime in the parish. The police say they remain resolute in their attempt at curtailing crime in the parish
