The World Bank has announced that Jamaica will need nearly 4- billion dollars to recover from the learning loss caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Education Minister, Fayval Williams says the government is committed to doing more overtime. The Human Development Programme Leader, Timothy Johnston presented a number of recommendations to the government to help mitigate the learning loss suffered. Johnston says there will be long-term repercussions if the government does not act now.
Education Minister says efforts to mitigate student dropout require a wide societal understanding, of what this means to the student’s personal development and that the report will help to contextualize the government’s decision making.
Part of the public expenditure review of the education sector in Jamaica was done by the World Bank and United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). More details here:
